PIGMENTS DYES

In most of the dyes, the problem of stickiness, temporary results, slow drying etc is seen. Pigment Dye is a highly concentrated, non-toxic pigment system that when applied to fabrics, looks and feels like dye. One of the major advantages of Pigment Dyes is that, unlike dyes and paints, one can get wash-fast, dry-cleanable, permanent results without the use of steamers, chemical fixatives, or extensive heat-setting.

The following are the applications of Pigment Dyes:

1. It can be used for direct applications like hand-painting, tie-dyeing, squirting,
dipping, crinkle effect etc.
2. Our dyes work very well with cotton, rayon, silk, velvet and synthetics including
polyester and nylon.
3. They can also be used for solid color dying.
4. It can give a “stonewashed” look after washing which is unique.
5. It can even be used with small children by having it as a non-toxic pigment dye.

Pigment Dye works well with the following materials.

  • On silk, the Pigment Dyes don’t spread as much as other silk dyes and paints, making it easier to do detail work without the use of resists. Alcohol and salt techniques work as well.
  • On nylon, which is very much like silk, it works best if it is prepared for printing.
  • On Polyester and other synthetics, it is found that this product sticks pretty well, unlike other dyes.
  • Whilst the formation of mineral pigment on the fabric is used less and less as a dyeing process, the use of pigment printing is continuously increasing. The reason for this is the development of soft and flexible synthetic resins, available as binders (or adhesives) to secure the pigment to the fabric without inducing a harsh or stiff finish.

Pigment Dyes are available in a variety of colors i.e. 12 standard colors, plus white and black. The primaries are yellow, scarlet or rubine, and blue. It is a very concentrated pigment. Thickener makes it more like paint and must be blended to avoid clumping. Bases should be added to the colors, not vice versa, to achieve desired effects. They may, if over-used, add more to the hand of the fabric.
